As a SQL Server Database Administrator you will work closely with our Development and Site Reliability Teams to build new features, monitor and ensure performance, lead schema refactoring efforts, and assist in best practices for database design.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure Database Health, Uptime, and Performance
- Utilize consistent and robust monitoring tools to ensure high availability
- Conduct performance baselines and continually audit for schema improvements
- Troubleshoot any performance anomalies and respond to high priority issues
- Assist in Development Operations
- Participate in code reviews to ensure new features utilize a robust and scalable schema
- Train and advise the development team on best practices, indexes, query plans, etc.
- Take an active role in continuous performance tuning initiatives
- Spearhead and Own Database Projects
- Review and recommend processes around backup/restore, table compression, partitioning, ERD, automation, etc.
- Establish reporting, BI, and data warehousing capabilities of the databases
- Assure High Security
- Establish best practices for database auditing
- Ensure sensitive information is properly categorized, stored, and transferred
- Review and install the latest security patches
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server, with a combination of administration and development
- Knowledge of best practices in database design and performance optimization of SQL Server databases, query plans, T-SQL, profiler, and monitoring tools
- Experience with cloud-based SaaS solutions, especially utilizing AWS technologies preferred
- Experience with database mirroring, backup strategies, and disaster recovery approaches
- Bachelor’s degree specializing in computing, engineering, or related field
- Understanding of Agile development processes
- Understanding of ORM concepts and applying database object changes through code migrations
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and upbeat personality
Education / Professional Certifications or Licenses Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent industry experience
Work Environment / Physical demands/ Travel Requirements:
- Computer-based work environment.
